Meet Mrs. Canova
My name is Marisa Tate Canova. I am a sixth grade Reading teacher at Isaac Middle School. I enjoy teaching my students and seeing them grow. I was born and raised in Laguna Niguel, CA and attended Dana Hills High School in neighboring Dana Point. I love the ocean and everything about it and miss it tremendously. After graduating from high school, I continued my education at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). After my third year of college, I left UCLA to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Czech Republic, which greatly shaped my decision to become a teacher. As a missionary, I taught people every day and saw how teaching changes lives. It also taught me a lot about human nature and interacting with others of different social, economic and cultural backgrounds. I returned home in February 2010 and I graduated from UCLA in 2011, Magna Cum Laude with a dual degree in American Literature and Culture and Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. Immediately following graduation, I moved to Phoenix, Arizona as a Corps Member of Teach for America.
Education is a major passion of mine but I also enjoy music, reading, learning and speaking new languages, writing, cooking, baking, and politics. I also love learning about different cultures, trying new things and I love people. I live in east Phoenix with my husband. We were married this past March and are loving life together.
